When most people think of cyberpunk fashion, they immediately conjure up in their minds images of vinyl jumpsuits or black trenchcoats, with dark sunglasses and lots of attitude. However, such generic staples of cyberpunk are so unimaginative. And seriously, will people in the future really ubiquitously wear such clothing? What will fashion REALLY look like in the future? Some people are already asking this question, and are coming up with some interesting answers and ideas. Enter the fashion scene known fittingly as "Cyber." The cyber scene itself is an offshoot of the rivet/industrial scene, which itself comes from the goth scene, which ITSELF was developed from the influences of punk rock in the late 70s and early 80s. The following links are to articles, picture galleries, and images that embody the Cyber look: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber_%28subculture%29psymbiote.org/cyfash/2005/psymbiote.org/www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4787070 (check the image gallery) tinyurl.com/qsye9 (click the thumbnails) In my opinion, I could very much see clubgoers and the younger generation in the 2070's dressing and acting in such a way. What do you guys think? Do you think the general aesthetic is appropriate? Or do you hold true to the vinyl jumpsuits and black trenchcoats that made cyberpunk what it is today?

I think that there will probably be a blend of both. No matter how many great fashion do-dads there are out there part of the population will not be wearing it. Wage-slaves will wear whatever the corp wants them to wear. I suspect it would be some kind of drab business attire. And kids will always want to wear something shocking. What I am interested in is how cultures will be affected by 2070. I know that some people in our Global economy have turned more traditional for whatever their native clothing may be. I have a deep Scottish ancestry and I own at least two kilts. One of which is a new everyday wear kilt.
