Nice. Good for you Abschalten! I hear you on the work front. I just started a new job myself and have been working like crazy too. Okay, I'm not sure how you'd like to work this Abschalten. What I'm attempting to do is to find the nearest wireless tower to the Pet Factory (p.225, Detecting Wireless Nodes). Get into it. Then have my data sprite redirect all calls to the emergency number (911?) and calls to the fire department and give them a pre-recorded message that assures them the fire department is on the way, blah, blah, blah(P.224 Intecepting Traffic. Since I'm getting it from the node and not the airways). I'm not sure if I'd need to hack it since it is a public node, but I'm guessing I do, to make it do what I want it to do. I'm also not sure what level of access I need. Let me know what you'd like me to roll and what not.

Question for the "team"...
How many tranq patches did you give Jade and are they all of the same strength... I thought we were gona use a weeker one on Miffy so as not to kill the thing... Just wanted a clear idea before I start using it or them on the pet and/or people.

Kagi, I believe you hacked the PetFactory host previously, at least on a security level. This would still give you a back door, so all those things you want to do are a mere handwave on your part.

Kagi, I believe you hacked the PetFactory host previously, at least on a security level. This would still give you a back door, so all those things you want to do are a mere handwave on your part. I'm trying something diffrent this time. As I understand it the wireless Matrix is set up much like cell phones and wireless internet today. So that if someone makes an Emergency call (911) from their personal Commlinks it acts like a Cell phone. Since the range of personal Commlinks are limited, due to size and signal strength, they make a connection to a wireless tower (Seattle is full of such towers). This tower then picks up the signal and passes it on via a groundline (aka hardline and/or phoneline) to it's intended destination. Since (like modern cell phones) commlinks make a connection with the closest tower to them to maximize signal strength, calls made from the Pet Factory area will go through the closest tower. So, what I'm attempting to do is to Hack one of these towers (closest to the Pet Factory) and intercept all emergency calls coming through it before they get transmitted over the ground line. Effectively I'd be blocking emergency calls made via the wireless net in the area. After this I will also block the Pet Factory's hardline alarm and phone communication. Of course eventually someone will catch on or get a call through, but It should provide us some additional time before emergency crews get the call. It's much like modern hackers fooling with phoneline junction boxes to intercept calls. This is what the data sprite is for. Clu would be swamped with catching all these calls, while a data sprite should be able to catch them and free Clu up to do other things. After all, it's all one number it's going to be blocking.

Some great ideas, but here are a few pieces of information to add to your analysis.
1) All wireless networks overlap, some to the point of being fully redundant. 2) A phone generally connects to the tower with the strongest signal, not always the closest. Think of it like: The more users connected, effectively the weaker the signal. 3) We have to assume that by 2070, some form of peer-to-peer network has formed for voice traffic as well (802.11 free networks are already forming in bigger cities.. Voice networks are the next evolution.. (http://www.wired.com/news/business/0,1367,52974,00.html) Even if not your primary connectivity to the LTG, it would serve as a back up if the primary network provider is available.
If you have already hacked the PetFactory network, then a far easier solution is to use your edit program and modify the routing configuration of their network so that all emergency calls go to an LTG of your choosing... Perhaps a voice automated hell that takes their information, promises to send help and then wishes them well... or one that simply puts them on hold, telling them how important their call is and to please wait.... As an added irony, I would loop the call and use their own IVR system to handle the automated hell... <G>
Hope this helps! -rp

I'm here. Just waiting for GM input. Redjack, thanks for the info. I had thought of tweeking the Pet Factory's network to redirect calls like that, but I was worried about personal calls from people's personal Commlinks.

I swear to God I am still here. My internet connection has been on the fritz for the past week or so. Im even considering my connectivity tonight to be a fluke. I come home from work and the modem lights just blink at me, taunting me. I know it puts a damper on the game but if I cannot get online then I cant reply.

before Jade gets any closer can you guys refresh my memory of the layout or at least tell me if this is right:
the factory is not among other buildings and is set appart by open park -like grounds? If this is right then she won't be just strolling into the parking lot and heading around back. She'll ditch the coveralls in the nearest buildings to the edge of the open ground and begin a stealthy approach.

Sorry everyone!
I had some computer problems as well as some real life problems and just couldn't get a chance to come back to the boards here. I apologize for dropping off the net like that. I hope I haven't given you all a bad impression, it's not like me to just up and leave like that, but it was out of my hands. Again I'm sorry and I wont let it happen again.
